In response, CIA started the MKUltra Project in 1953. CIA front organizations hired scientists in universities to develop truth drugs, toxins and incapacitating drugs including LSD and test the effects of LSD on humans.
One MKUltra subproject hired famous magician John Mulholland to develop sleight-of-hand methods for secretly slipping adversaries tablets, powders, liquids and stealing objects with special chapters for women. And write a manual mentioned below.
In 1973, CIA Director Richard Helms ordered the destruction of all documents related to MKUltra. A few years later, 12 boxes of remaining documents were discovered. The contents of each box are listed here. Links to more details are below.
